Impact Zone Wrestling is the longest running wrestling federation in Phoenix, and we've been going to their shows, back since they took place at Veterans Memorial Coliseum, under the Western States Wrestling name. After that venue was sold, they went on hiatus, before reforming in 2002. [trashcity.org has reviews of their February 2003 and March 2003 shows.]
The following year, they were producing a weekly TV show for a local Spanish-language station - we created the programs for each event, in both English and Spanish. However, their venue was the Pitic bar, a place whose low ceiling made it totally unsuitable, and when the location closed for redevelopment (we think the owner needed to replace all the ceiling tiles IZW had brought down!), they were left homeless. Luckily, we had just been contacted to run events at The Sets in Tempe - they staged their first promotion at this much-improved location in June 2004.
IZW have been there ever since, with a crowd that continues to grow - now, if you don't get there early, expect to stand! The federation has become something of a "farm team" for WWE: Mike Knox, currently starring with ECW, is a graduate of the IZW wrestling school. Derrick Neikirk, Jack Bull and Lawrence Tyler have also been signed to developmental contracts with WWE.
